The Community of Hope Shelter, which receives many volunteers from Holy Cross Parish in North Portland, received a $95,159 grant from The Lowe’s Gives Foundation for Phase 2 of the shelter’s building renovations. The money will be used to install new windows, siding, roof and air conditioning.

In 2016, with the help of the Home Builders Foundation, Community of Hope was able in increase capacity, bring the building up to code, remodel the kitchen, and add shower and laundry facilities. With the help of Lowe’s Gives Foundation, they will complete their project this year.

“Having a beautiful, safe building for families to live and grow in has been a huge gift this past year. However, the unsafe windows and excessive heat in the summer continued to be challenging,” said Linda Jo Devlaeminck, program director for the shelter, in a statement to the press.

“With Lowe’s help, we can how have safe, beautiful, and energy-efficient windows, replace the aging siding and roof, and having a cool refuge from the summer heat will make life here even more secure and enjoyable.”
