Donald Sutton

Donald Sutton, a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Tillamook, died Saturday, April 17 in Wheeler. He was 81.
Mr. Sutton was born Aug. 28, 1926 in Tillamook to William and Laura Sutton and attended Nehalem Grade School and lived at Aldervale, his father’s cheese factory.
During World War II, Mr. Sutton lost his brother, Lloyd, at Guadalcanal. He served in the war aboard the USS Boxer and after returning home, married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Erskine, in Tillamook. She died in 1995.
After graduating from Oregon State College, Mr. Sutton started a 44-year-long career at the Tillamook Creamery Association until retiring in 1994 as general manager. He then volunteered weekly at the food bank, remained active in the Boy Scouts of America and was on the Tillamook High School Alumni Committee. He did the accounting for Camp Makuala Camp Fire Camp and Junior Golf.
Survivors include daughter Janis Duren; granddaughters Jessica Hoffer and Jorja Duren and close extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, April 23 at Sacred Heart following a rosary the night before. Contributions may be made to the Tillamook High School Alumni Scholarship or Tillamook YMCA.
