Theresa Lyons, member of St. Michael Parish in downtown Portland, died Friday, April 11 at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 72.
Ms. Lyons was born Aug. 16, 1932 in Jamestown, ND, to Tom and Alyce Lyons and attended Northern Illinois University where she received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech pathology. She spent most of her early teaching years in the Portland public schools as a speech pathologist and later at Boise Eliot School as a speech and language specialist in the early childhood program.
She was active in the Oregon Speech and Hearing Association and received two awards from the association recognizing her excellence in teaching. Her brother, Michael Lyons, preceded Ms. Lyons in death. Survivors include brother Jim Lyons; sisters, Lucia Hickman and Martha Utz and 11 nieces and nephews.
