Dorothy Poulsen

Dorothy Estella (Berg) Poulsen, a member of St. John Fisher Parish in southwest Portland, died Saturday, April 5 in Portland of complications from a stroke. She was 84.
Poulsen was born July 8, 1923 in Cornlea, Neb., to Guido and Rose Berg and graduated from Overton High School and North Platt Business School of Commerce, both in Nebraska. She moved with her family to Portland in the early 40s.
In the same decade, she married Milton Fisher of Tillamook and the couple lived there until they divorced in 1958. That year, she returned to Portland and got a job as a legal secretary for Attorney Garth Brown and worked there for the next 30 years. In 1959, she married Wallace Poulsen, who died in 1986.
Poulsen was president of the Tillamook Women’s Bowling Association and won the association’s Class A Singles Championship in 1953 with a 596 series. She sponsored children in Central and South America through the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging and was a volunteer bookkeeper with the Albertina Kerr Centers in Portland.
Survivors include step-son and daughter-in-law Neil and Kathleen Poulsen; sister Joan Becker; grandchildren Christopher and Emily Poulsen and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. John Fisher. Remembrances may be made to Albertina Center, 424 NE 22nd Ave., Portland, OR, 97232.
