To the Sentinel:
I was disgusted with the idea of targeting 11 year old children for vocations.
This age group is still learning what it means to share and work with others. Children this age who attend Catholic schools and parishes already have adequate contact with priests and nuns, but they are inexperienced in the skill of discernment necessary to make a decision regarding a lifetime commitment to religious life. Are we desperate for priests? Yes. If we would open our hearts to the work of the Spirit, let go of our prideful belief that we can continue as we have since the 600s and begin to ordain married men and women, we would have no shortage.
