To the Sentinel:
In every state office I ventured into over the last few months, the fees doubled, tripled and some went even higher.
State fees are taxes collected from taxpayers to provide a service. To be sure, there is inflation, rising costs in doing business, even state business. But when is the state going to come to grips with a “budget?”
Has it ever thought about living within its means? It is easier to sock it to the voters, than tighten its belts.
The Portland Archdiocese has to do it, as does every Catholic family. How many people do you know who are making over $250,000 or are one of those nasty corporations?
I’m the small business person who had to lay off all my employees last year.
These measures are retro-active to January, 2008. Taxation is not on profit, but on revenue. That’s the killer of jobs! Measures 66 and 67 are not good for the Church or Catholic families.
