HILLSBORO — As more than 260 children return to campus at St. Matthew School here, they will be greeted by new additions to the staff for the 2017-18 year.

The school welcomes Fanny Lizier, Trudy Perkins and Anastasia Gavrilovich. Lizier is the newest member of the preschool staff, brought on board to teach afternoon preschool to 3- and 4-year-olds — the littlest members of the student body. She will work closely with Julie Nelson, preschool director, to teach and enrich the preschool curriculum.

Perkins will be providing instructional assistance to second and third grades. Teachers Beverly Hernandez and Jenny Dern say they are excited to have the additional support and look forward to the efficiency and new opportunities Perkins’ work will bring to their classrooms.

And finally, Gavrilovich will serve as St. Matthew’s long-term substitute teacher in the music department, filling in for music teacher Margie Fifer as she completes her maternity leave. Gavrilovich says she is excited to meet the children and help fulfill the school’s mission of providing outstanding enrichment programs for students.

The theme for the upcoming school year is “Inspired by Mary to Serve.” Created by St. Matthew middle school teacher Leandra Wolf and her students, it is their hope that students will reflect on Mary’s dedication to Jesus and honor her throughout the year. September’s theme is “Born to Serve, Not to Sin” and kicked off with an all-school celebration of Mary’s birthday Sept. 8.
